Do men really need skin care?

Skin care is for everyone. From keeping skin looking healthy, clear and balanced to ensuring it remains protected and resilient, incorporating skin care into daily habits — no matter who you are — can help skin stay in optimal condition.

Isn’t soap skin care?

Though it may be tempting — and convenient! — to use body soap on the face, we would caution against it, as not all soap is designed for facial use. Using soap incorrectly on the face could lead to overly dry or even irritated skin. And, if you are looking for more skin benefits, like help with acne or aging, you really should pick the right products for your face.

What about shaving? Does cleanser double as shaving cream?

I’m all for multitasking, but cleanser isn’t the best choice for a comfortable shave. Instead, we recommend a product designed to deliver. A dedicated shave cream can offer a multitude of benefits, and for anyone new to the skin care game, choosing a formula with a lighter lather — a cream instead of a foam — can result in a more precise shave since facial hair is more visible.

I’m ready to build him a routine! How do I know what to choose?

Begin with the previously mentioned building blocks of a solid skin care routine (a cleanser, moisturizer and facial SPF). Search for simple, science-backed products designed to deliver healthy-looking skin. An easy way to narrow your search for products made for men is to identify those that have been clinically tested and proven efficacious on men’s skin.
